For those needing a boost in income- an idea I haven't seen much mention of. On eBay (or baycrazy) look for items ending near where you live that are maybe collection only that you could list but offer postage on and make more money on due to item being available- hopefully not many of you live near me! Stay off NW postcodes please! :P Bundles you can collect is an idea too- Im off to get one today!£20 a day April 2014 £834.87/£600 :j

I'd love to start a ebay business selling 2nd hand items, i think its something i'd do well at.
Only thing stopping me really is the accounting side of things.
Im not sure how you would be able to prove the out goings for stock, i mean you dont get reciepts from carbooters and jumbles for the items you buy, surely you can't just write them out yourself, can you?
I have looked on the HMRC website, but the only info i came across was with regards to VAT, and more aim towards 2nd car dealers, antique dealers ect.Build your own dreams ~ or someone will hire you to help build theirs

Thanks Natterjack, i think your thinking of proof of sale.:)
what i mean is if i was to go to a carboot and buy a item for 50p, knowing that i can sell it for say £10, how would i get proof that i bought it for 50p from a carboot seller.
from what i gather i'd have to keep track of what ive paid for items, kinda writing my own reciepts for such items, but surely it can't be that easy?? that method would be open to fraudulent reciepts dont you think
Thanks Aesop, you certainly know your way around the messege boards, i must confess to having 5 subscribed threads and just sticking to those mostly
Phoned Mr Ts to say i wouldnt be in tonight, and was asking if i would get a drs note  for a head cold!!, i said No i wouldnt dream of wasting the drs time for such a thing, plus it takes about a week to get in at the drs anyway!...Seemed a strange request to me..Build your own dreams ~ or someone will hire you to help build theirs

I get bored, so wander around... you find interesting things that way.
You have to self cert for the first 5 days of illness and your Dr would charge you for a sick note, so no they shouldn't be asking for it!
Maybe they get a lot of sickness and this is their way of checking you are genuine.0 -

To be honest - I think yes you probably could just have a column in a spreadsheet with the prices paid for things, and there is no way of proving it, and they will most likely appreciate that, and be glad that you are declaring it properly at all. Obviously anything from a charity shop/Ebay etc you can keep proof of purchase receipts for them.
Most likely it will Never matter. All HMRC want to see if basically 3 figures - Income - Expenses = Profits
I keep records for my MS work, with each job I do for each company, and there's a column for travel expenses, printing costs, purchases, etc etc. And I do have envelopes full of receipts for each. Yet I doubt anyone other than me will ever see these things! My tax return was as I said above - income, expenses and profit, from which the tax owed was calculated.
Potentially HMRC could do a random spot check, but it is so unlikely.
I would say phone them though for clarification - they are so friendly and helpful - definitely not the scary 'Tax Man' image commonly still held.Half of November Make £10 a Day Challenge: £51/ £1700
