Pets at Home are doing 3 for 2 on the 2kg JWB bags at the moment.
  • sorry for spelling your name wrong in my last post :o

I'm getting a bit confused over how much too feed and how much it would work out. Angel is 3 pound in weight and is 15 weeks, her projected adult weight is around 5 - 6 pounds.

Alfie is 11 pound and nearly 3 years old, at the moment they are both on the Iams small breed puppy food. Will it cause Alfie any harm to stay on puppy food while angel still needs it? If you have any spare time would you be able to help me work out quantities please.

I have found this http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/James-Wellbeloved-Puppy-15KG-DUCK-or-TURKEY-ONLY-3599/productinfo/JWBCP%20%20%20%20%2015KGTURK I am looking at the turkey/rice 15 kg for £35.99

    thanks muchly :D

Have just ordered some from there, figured the small bags might be better so I can see which kind they like best, plus hubby had a 10% voucher for signing up to their newsletter.

Just as an aside, if you sign up to the newsletter at the moment you go in a draw to win a years dog food
  • I have been researching into dog foods for quite a while as our Old tyme bulldog had skin and ear problems, we had her on Burns but the problems continued, also the meat content in this is very low. We switched her on to a Orijen which is fantastic I cant speak highly enough of it. She has never had one ear infection since putting her on it and her skin totally cleared up. You could see the difference in her in a week. There are no cereals, grains or beet pulp (cheap filler) it is purely meat and veg. It is quite expensive but you dont need as much as the cheaper foods. The company also make a brand called Acana which has slightly more veg content in but still a very good food. I am also using Wafcol Salmon and potato for our Dogue de Bordeaux foster dog as when he arrived his skin was terrible, I dread to think what he had been fed. He looks a different dog now after a couple of weeks and his skin has calmed right down. This food again has no grains or cereals in it and is around £36 for a 12kg bag (from vetuk) and he loves it, (the Orijen was a bit rich for him) Hope I havent waffled on to much but I have a real problem with the pet food industry and the amount of rubbish they put in pet food especially Bakers which should be banned, it even contains carcinogenic chemicals banned in other countries!

We have had two dog both living to 15 years and we varied their diet. We fed them chumb ,fresh meat, dried food and scraps. They were very healthy dogs. Our vets told us that unless they were big breeds or had medical problems then most of the things we ate as a family could be given to our dogs.Of course we avoided things like chocolate, garlic ect.

The other advantage of the small bags is that I can lift them - otherwise I have to get my husband to come with me to do the shopping or order them online
  • We have always used the JWB Cereal Free but just recently our Scottish Terrier started to get stomach upsets. The vet put her on Royal Canin Gastro Intestinal which she loves. He said that if a dog is prone to stomach trouble they tend to do much better on the RC food.

We now mix to the two foods together (JWB & RC) and she is thriving, nearly 12 years old and dancing around like a puppy. It does seem expensive, but we shop around and get it on the internet with free delivery. And I guess if it saves on vets bills then it is a price worth paying!
