Hair looking "greasy" underneath straight after washing?

Batiste actually do a brown dry shampoo for dark hair
It leaves a weird brown residue in my bath when I wash my hair the next time though!
I use Avon Daily Shampoo for normal hair and never have this problem. I read somewhere once, shampoos such as Pantene make hair look so healthy they shine, but they aren't healthy at all..they just look healthy and shiny due to the silicone.
Glad you have resolved the issue!0 -
No, not bath water in the jug, fresh water from the tap into a jug - I rinse the suds out in the bath water (just because my hair's so long, I give it a good massage underwater to get the suds out of my scalp) and do the final rinses as the bath water is draining so the water level is too low for me to accidentally dip my hair back into.
Not that great with brown hair though, I tend to look a bit grey and ghostly! I know they do versions for brown hair but to be honest this is too expensive to use as a solution really.
Thanks, I've done a cold rinse for years now since reading that it's supposed to be good for you.
Thanks, I do more of a scalp massage, though with this 'greasy' buildup I've been piling up the rest of my hair onto the lathered up top to try to wash underneath properly too. I tried applying conditioner beforehand, with the idea that I'd wash the bulk of it out when shampooing to tackle any residue caused by conditioner, but it doesn't seem to make a difference which way around I do it. I've always made it a rule to brush it at least once, but usually several times, as it dries as without this step it can be twice as bad (though brushing doesn't cure it completely)
I cut out conditioner for a month or two with no effect so not the conditioner. I think you were right about the silicone build up though - a couple of washes with adding a spoonful of bicarb to the Tresemme shampoo (which seems to be silicone-free from my look at the ingredients, though I'm no expert. Nothing ending with -icone, at least!) and the buildup is gone :T I even did the cardinal sin of falling asleep with it still damp, not even a cursory brush, expecting it to be in a real state and in need of the dry shampoo treatment the next morning, but it was perfectly soft and shiny!
I'm wondering if the culprit was some of the free samples of shampoo I've been getting from the freebies board, I will keep an eye on the ingredients a bit more closely and do the odd clarifying wash with the bicarb to keep on top of it
You are still putting your hair in the bath water though which has the dirt from your hair and body in it before giving it a rinse with clean water. I would only use clean water from the tap to rinse all of the shampoo out.0 -

From experience, just using a jug doesn't get all the shampoo out so I'd have a new problem of shampoo left in my hair. Once we sort out shower head out, I'll just use that to rinse it completely but a jug just isn't practical by itself with really long hair.
I used the same dunk-and-massage, rinse-with-jug method alongside the bicarb and the success suggests that it's not the bath water causing the problems, thanks for the tip though.
Several of the freebie samples were Pantene, not a brand I'd usually use, so know to avoid them now - I'll stick to my old favourites, the Herbal Essences etc.0 -
I asked my hairdresser at the weekend about the silicone issue and she said it is present in brands such as pantene and tresemme, and one way of being able to tell is that after you have washed your hair but not used conditioner, it should not feel silky and soft, it should feel quite dry and 'pull' a bit.
How about getting a hand held shower head attachment to put over the taps?0 -
I posted a while ago about Daughters hair being like this- I went looking for some decent priced shampoo, and found sainsburys tea tree shampoo thats for normal to oily hair- a bargain at only £1.50!- it is perfect for her hair and leaves
it looking lovely0 -
you could try putting the shampoo on and massaging in before wetting the hair.
My lecturer told me to do this when I couldn't get oil out of my hair form a massage, it worked, but make sure you massage it in well.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

My hair had been looking and feeling a bit waxy over the last few months and found that using OH's H&S scalp care shampoo once every so often instead of my Herbal Essences helped, but tried using Pantene Pro-V Ice Shine last night and it's looking and feeling better than it has in ages!
It was cheap in Wilkos at the weekend so thought it was worth a try after reading about Pantene clarifying shampoo on this thread - I don't think it's the same bottle, but it's done the trick for me!
