This happened to us last time we got a taxi to the airport. The driver didn't seem the slightest bit bothered, didn't even apologise, he acted as if it was just one of those things that happen and put our notes away.

Aussie stood his ground, said the change was too big for a tip and after an uncomfortable silence and a bit of a stand off, the driver suddenly 'found' some change...

Cabbies are unreal. Everyone always says how they love black cab drivers. They ones I often get are morose and will try and stiff you on change. Was back in London over Christmas and the one at the airport refused to help me with my bags at the , was sullen and not really knowledgeable for a cabbie. Then wondered why he didn't get a tip.

    Hello Martin,
my sympathies re your disasterous cab fare £20. I drove a cab in London for 12 years and in central London the only firm to use is Olimpicars. (owned by Tony Kambitis) He started in the mid sixties and to this day knows all his customers personally. Any complaints are taken seriously and he tolerates no fancy dancing from his drivers.

If you ever get the same cabbie again, make sure you throw up in the back of his cab & when he insists you pay to have it cleaned tell him you don't carry any extra money, just like he apparantly doesn't!

:rotfl: madness. Last time I took a cab for work it was just going nearby (we had a meeting in a nearby hotel abt a xmas party venue, and only 30mins to be there and back). total cost of ride just over £3. Handed over the £10 note the boss had provided to get us there quick. Cabbie asked how much I wanted back. I said "errr, the change from the fare please?" since it'd been a quick journey, I saw no reason he should be tipped (infact he'd taken us the slightly longer route, as my colleague had commented during our journey).

He seemed slightly miffed, and muttered something about a tip as he got my change.

Can't say I'll loose any sleep over seeming mean, even if it was company money :rotfl:
