We put ours in envelopes marked 'his', 'hers' and 'household' but it's a bloomin mess. Receipts are all shapes and sizes. Any tips on how you keep and store your receipts in a tidy but accessible way?
many thanks.

I don't have any tips for storing the receipts themselves, but I do find it convenient to scan them and store the files on the PC. It's then easier to find them if needed in my opinion.Solar install June 2022, Bath

All important receipts, bills, correspondence etc. go in a large A4 ring binder with dividers for relevant sections. One binder will last at least 12 months, then they go into a box in the loft, where they gather dust for many years. Eventually, I clear out the really old stuff and burn it.
Stuff I know I will want to refer to, I scan and store in an appropriate location on my PC, so I can quickly find it and view the details.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I temporarily store them in my wallet (I have a big one - ooh, err, Missus!). Then have clear out at the end of the month. Most of them can be shredded or thrown away e.g receipts from supermarkets for my weekly shop, others are kept in an A4 folder marked with 'Receipts'. There can be problems with receipts fading over time, but I find if they are kept away from daylight, this doesn't seem to happen."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

All receipts get shoved in a shoebox near the kitchen door (I kid you not) - it's easy to unload them all straight into it as soon as we arrive home.
When bank and credit card statements arrive, I just check that I can find the corresponding receipt and, if it's correct, then I shred it.
Receipts for larger items - that are also the guarantee - get stored in the Household File.
Receipts paid with cash (usually much smaller ones) get put in another shoebox - to be entered into the Household spreadsheet later .. but never doWe now have 3 years worth of these.
It's a sort of half a system and sort of half works ... I've tried to be more organised but without success (so this is better than going for total efficiency - which never works for us).0 -
Our normal everyday receipts go onto a "spike" which when full, we put into a large labelled and dated envelope. We can get about 4 months' receipts onto a spike and they are in just about chronological order.
Ones relating to larger items (anything with a guarantee) are stapled to the instruction booklet.0 -

I have a lever arch file with punched pockets in - each pocket is labelled with the month. Receipts acquired go into the relevant month. At the end of the year, I get 12 pieces of paper and go through the receipts month by month - the pieces of paper have the months written on them, the receipts are then totalled and the total written on the paper which is then stapled to the receipts. My receipts then go to my accountant (this is the way that she prefers to receive my receipts).0

Mine (for household type items) go in a drawer in a small filing cabinet, no order whatsover, just piled in, along with instruction leaflets, guarantees etc. Have a clear out every 5 years or so and often end up finding instruction leaflets from kettles/toasters long since dead.0

As treasurer of my bowls club, I staple the receipts together in monthly date order. After the audit they are all stored in an envelope file and will evenually be disposed of, some years hence. I found that the stapling was needed due to the huge variety of sizes that receipts come in. They vary from till receipts, not much bigger than a couple of postage stamps, to A4 sheets of paper. I sometimes staple the small ones on to the larger ones.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
