NTL/Virgin Media

I have recently been looking at my bills and notice that they have been charging me twice for line rental which has come to an amount of £281.50.

I phoned the call centre and was told as it is my responsibility to check the bills they can only refund 6 months (i.e. £66)

I have had a look through the terms and conditions and can not see this in print.

Is there any way in which I can get my money back?

Thanks in anticipation.

    Small Claims Court.

As Sir Richard's name is now associated with the outfit, some publicity might help to concentrate their minds on the promised improvements on NTL/Telewest's customers service.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • As an NTL broadband customer i have been bombarded by Virgin Media stuff letting me know about the "4 for £40".

I have NTL broadband, TMobile Mobile phone, BT landline but use 18185 and have the £15 month Sky TV package. It does look like a good deal as i am paying approx £70 a month for all 4 at the moment.

Is it a good deal. Hopefully someone can advise me.

    Ta.
  • Same as here.
What I want to know is the prices from Virgin as last time I checked on the new fandangled website there were none!!
I currently have broadband with tesco £18pm, home phone with pipex/homecall £15pm and ntls basic package which is £4pm.

Am I going to be better off both financially and service wise with all 3 on virgin? I've got no complaints with any for service but dont want it to get worse for the sake of a couple of quid!!!
Also with pipex you dont pay a seperate bill to BT for the landline would you do that with virgin?

I cant do all 4 as I'm tied to 3 mobile til Nov

    Any thoughts?

Virgin Medias 3 for £30 service see what you get here:

You would be comitting yourself to the expensive cable phone service, the line rental is included but you only get free weekend calls, all chargeable calls with this service have a whopping 6p connection fee.

Service wise, you're better off on Virgin than Tesco for internet- it's the same price but you get a 2Mb unlimited connection and it goes down the cable and not your phone line, so no messing about with microfilters or login details. They also give you an inclusive Anti-Virus package called PC Guard.

The landline probably will work out more expensive if you do a lot of calls in the week, and calls to mobiles are ridiculous unless you put on Talk Mobile £1.50/month which puts you on one set of tarrifs for all mobiles (11.25p/min day 7.5p/min evening 3.75p/min weekend)

And I hear you with the mobile, I'm tied to Vodafone till NEXT YEAR!!
  • Thanks guys, that was exactly what I needed, and that weblink is perfect. Its what I was trying to find before but couldn't!!!
Not only will I save £7 every month (£17 on the first!!) but I'll get hundreds more channels, including the discovery and animal planet I wanted for the kids!!!
I only use the landline to call my mum as long as its after 7...I'll just use my mobile instead if I need to, or wait for her to ring me!!! I rarely use my housephone as all calls on the mob are free!!

    Virgin Media here we come!!

    Thanks again!
  • I was over charged for 2 years by NTL and I had everyone penny returned to me took me a while to get it but I went to the chairman of the board (well e-mailed all of them) to eventually one of their PA's rang me - Also phoned Virgin Media yesterday about my internet charges was paying £17.99 on NTL and all of a sudden its gone up to £18.00 complained and they have reduced the payment to £10 for 6 months

Remember, if you go cable, you can get cheaper calls over your cable line via either the phone co-op of first telecom,

Even more important, if you are on cable there is not need for the phone line (which you have to have with ADSL), so you can buy an ATA and use VoIP for all your phone calls.. :) Lots of money to be saved.
