Barclaycard initial, sent out card the declined application??

Since I'm in the process of rebuilding my credit rating, I didn't want to push my chances by applying for a Barclaycard, so after looking around I decided to apply for a Barclaycard Initial Visa.
I did my application online on the 21st Feb, and an automated response said that my application needed further checks and u would be notified of the decision in due course.
On the 24th Feb I got an email telling me my application had been accepted with a limit of £500 and my card would be with me within 10 days, it also gave me log in details for online billing which I logged into, I also called customer services who advised me my card had been posted.
I came home from work today to find my card had arrived, and I also had another letter which I presumed could be my pin..
However the second letter read:

Dear Miss (blah blah blah)

We regularly take a close look at our existing accounts. After looking at your account carefully it no longer meets our lending criteria, so we have decided to close it.
Unfortunately, we can't discuss the details of our criteria as they are confidential company information.

In line with the terms and conditions that allow either yourself of Barclaycard to close your account, we now give you notice of termination of this agreement with immediate effect.

Please make sure you cancel any direct debits by writing to the companies direct, as we cannot do this for you.

Kind Regards

Barclaycard

The date on this letter was 22nd Feb! Yet I received an acceptance email on the 24th and the date in the letter than my card came with was also the 24th!
I spoke to Batclaycard about this, who advised that this is their normal process and that my application hadn't been fully approved when the card was sent??.. but there was no mention of this on the acceptance email or on the letter that the card came with

Anyone ever heard of this happening? And where do I stand?

  • And where do I stand?
They've closed your account, they can do so at any time, for any reason.

Weird situation, but I dont think you cant do anything about it.
Hopefully it shows on your credit record as a successful application rather than a declined.
  • Not unusual with barclaycard tbh customer services is terrible and organisation is non existent they'll be cutting back even more now they've been told to pay back half a billion!

Credit reports do not show declines, just searches and active/settled/satisfied/defaulted accounts,
  • There were a few people reporting this type of activity from Barclaycard last year. I thought they would have had their system sorted out by now but apparently not. Seems an odd way to go about (not) opening an account. :(
Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??
