That's true. They think if they hassle you at work, you'll pay up to get rid of them.
They did that to me once and got a shock. I remember going on my two week summer holiday back in the late '90s. I was trying to get all my work up to date before I went and sort out all the travel insurance etc. I'd meant to send off a cheque for my Co-Op credit card and had just forgotten to do do it.
As soon as I was on holiday I realised and just accepted that I was going to have to pay interest and a late payment charge and I'd sort it out when I got back.
First day back, work, up to my eyeballs, a full intray and post it notes everywhere, with messages to call people back. Next thing, the phone goes and it's someone from the Co-Op already chasing me (it was only a week overdue) and asking for a payment by debit card.
So I told the smug git to take the whole amount (about £2,000), he said, the whole minimum payment and I said no, the full balance and cancel the card. Unbelievably he had to go and check with his supervisor that this was okay to do (I was expecting another row at this stage). He came back and took the balance and cancelled the card.
I hope they thought it was worthwhile hassling me at work for the money. Thankfully I'm self employed now and I'm happy to take calls at my 'workplace'.0
