Welwyn Gardens City areas

Hi all,

Have been to WGC and considering buying a property there.

I am wondering which are the best areas and which are the ones to avoid.

I would much appreciate your comments and replies.

Cheers, pd51

I grew up in old Welwyn and went to School in WGC.

Around the centre is the nicest area - over the other side of the bridge and towards the hospital was always considered a bit rough especially Knella Road where I had digs for a while.

A little further out is Oaklands just past Old Welwyn which is lovely.

I found WGC quite depressing - just nothing to do :D

The town center resembles ghost down after 17:00 hr and Sunday morning.

Even though the town has Tesco's head office situated, Tesco didn't bother to open a store there!
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Tesco careers head office, Tesco's actual head office is in cheshunt ;)

I also went to school in WGC but didn't live there. My memory is that the west side of the railway is all good. Don't know much about the east side but don't have a great impression of the area around the hospital and heronswood road area

No children, threfore no need to be close to schools
Do you need to be near the station for commuting?
Yes. I believe 1.1/1.2mile would be okay (20-25min walk)

To be honest this is one of the reasons why we liked the place.

When I worked there, Panshanger was rough (ex council) as was Knella Road. Scholars Court was full of international Tesco workers. Digswell and Oaklands were lovely but very, very expensive.

The village was lovely and there was a nice new build located there (Nodeway Gardens).
