Freezing computer

Help,
My sons computer keeps freezing. It will boot up into windows ok but then randomly freezes. The mouse pointer wont move and the only way to solve is to restart. I have tried reinstalling windows, virus checkers, spy/malware removal, updating video drivers, changing the mouse and keyboard. Don't know what to do next apart from hardware (maybe its RAM).
Anyone out there have any ideas or can suggest way forward.:mad:
