im sorry to hijack this thread but just had a quick question, hope nobody minds,
im wondering if anyone could tell me what this carers allowance is ive read about?
im a nrpp, my oh is on csa1,
his son was 18 this year and in his second year of college, im unsure if he is doing a third - does anybody have an idea when this stops for him?
his daughter turns 17 this year - does this have a effect on the carers allowance part?
its very confusing,
thanks in advance claire.
This is quoted from the CSA booklet we recieved with our assessment in 2009 which explains how they calculate maintainance for CSA 1
"an extra amount based on the age of the youngest child for whom child maintainance is needed. This is known as a carer allowance. This is not maintainance for the children, but we include it because the children need to be cared for by an adult. The carer allowance is reduced by 25% if the youngest child is 11, 12 or 13, or by 50% if the youngest child is 14 or 15. The carer allowance ends when the youngest child is 16."
Then a example in the book shows that for a child under 11 the carer allowance is £59.15, so I assume that is full carer allowance.
Also book is from 2009 so I don't know if rates have changed but as both of your relivant children are over 16, no carers allowance is due anyway
Hope this helps
Be be warned, the end of cares allowance may not mean a lower assessment0 -
thank you owdslackdraws
its very confusing, we are worried about it going down as we dont want the kids to loose out on
the money if csa changes or stops if you know what i mean,
i know once they get older its stops but by then hopefully we could give them some "treat" money instead or something,
thank you

No problem:)
Csa don't automatically knock carers allowance off when child reaches a certain age, you have to ask for a reassessment.
Then because other allowances & wages etc could have gone up, you could end up paying more0 -
Hi claire1234, our new assesment came through and the carers allowance on there is £33.75 i think forms not by me at the mo. oh's youngest isnt 16 for a few months yet. it does say on the form and i believe the pwc gets the same form that the csa need to be informed when qc reach 11,14 or 16. however whilst there is a chance that my partner may be able to see his children it will be highly unlikley that we will be contacting the csa when he turns 16. it is an amount we can afford to pay. it dropped by roughly £22 a month. from the look of the workings out sent we are paying the full amount required on csa 1. this is now for 1 child minus the carers allowance for the child that has turned 19.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404
18th May- 15th June 2012 £100/£75
Dont Throw Food Away 2012 May £5/0
