csa1 possible reassesment

hi, i posted a few weeks back. my partners eldest has now turned 19. we are now expecting a reassesment to kick in to cater for the youngest who will turn 16 in a few months. we fully expect to pay until youngest turns 19. has anyone had any experience of paying for two children on csa1 then being re assesed for paying for one please. at present we are paying £361 for two children. if it stays this amount that would be great but i am panicking that the csa (after reading other peoples horror stories) may have got our last assesment wrong, i doubt it as when we were reassesed several years back my partner went from paying £257(no arrears) to £400 i think it was, we queried the £400 and it was changed to £361 as they forgot to take something off. the reassesment kicked in last time as my partners ex wife asked for it when my partner and i moved in together. kellogs i did pm you a few weeks back,i'm sure your busy & i never wanted to pester but i am unsure if my message got to you, if you or anyone else could help that would be great many thanks. if the payment goes up then it goes up but i would love to have a general figure of what we should be paying before the csa pluck a figure out of the air, from what i have heard there are not many left who can correctly work out a csa1 payment schedule. many thanks.

It really depends....wages might of gone up? The carers element of CSA1 stops too when the qualifying child reaches 16yrs old...so that might reduce the assessment.
Also do you pay the full amount of maintenance required or is that reduced due to exempt/protected income?
    CSA1 is a nightmare...I know ...we've been on it for 15yrs!!
  • hi, thanks for replying, i think oh has been on csa1 for approx 11-12 years we have been together nearly 9 years. i think we are paying the full amount, the last conversation we had with the csa we were told if i was earning less i think between £40 - £50 less a week he would have been paying a lot less than what he was assesed at. there is no problem with us paying the csa it needs to be done. we dont have much contact with his ex and children. on the face of it our wages have increased. i am paid a basic salary and that hasnt changed. my partner earns a good wage he has months where he can earn a lot of overtime also there are months when he is on a basic. the last time we were assessed it included his christmas bonus and he had months of overtime assessed also. i sent his p60 in with his wage slips last time and i'm pretty sure it was a similar amount to what he earns now.

I'd bite the bullet and get the reassessment, we did last year when QC reached 16 as the carers element stopped, my husband also had a wage increase too, the reassessment took the payments down slightly, but the important thing from our point was that we kept CSA informed of changes income etc., as we did not want any problems, at the moment we are stuck in the situation where we know QC dropped out of college last week, but obviously as long as CB is still being paid CSA is still payable....even though according to website due to date QC stopped being in education means that CB should stop being payable tomorrow, unless child signs on with Connexions ...which they haven't yet...........nothing is ever simple!!
  • My son for who i pay £469 amonth for on CSA1 is now 17 yrs old. I know that my maintenance needed has gone down due to the fact that you do not pay carers bit on maintenance needed, when a child reaches 16. My wage has not changed that much my yearly gross income is about the same as last year aprox £27000. The carers bit on the maintenance needed is about £34.
I would have no worries about contacting the CSA, but i do not trust them one bit. I can not see them dropping my payments by the same amount as the carers allowance. I expect that they will come up with some scam where i would end up paying more than what i do now. So i am better off not saying anything or do i trust the CSA to be fare with me???

As long as you are paying the full amount of maintenace required and there are no arrears the payments should go down.
  • Hi, thanks for your replys. we have just got in from work and on the doormat was a letter from the csa, it contained a new maintenance agreement.it looks like it has been sent automatically as it starts with 'following a change to your child maintenance.' it has reduced by a total of £22 a month. it has also given a breakdown on how they have worked out the assesment and they look very similar to what i had tried to work out. it states on the breakdown for maintenance needed that the carers allowance is £33.75 and that we must contact them when child reaches 11,14 or 16 in our case child will be 16 in a few months. we will wait to see if pwc asks for a new assesment first. many thanks for your help again, also we were & still are paying the full amount of maintenance required.

  • Has anyone got any idea as to how much the CSA would drop the payments to?? my housing costs are £206 amonth, council tax £65, By rights it should be £33 aweek as my maintenance required would go down by that much!! Thanks

  • My maintenance needed is £87 a week but the CSA have worked out that i can afford to pay £106, So by rights the CSA should take the carers bit off and all i should pay is £72 a week, £106 - £34 = £72 !! or will they still try and screw me!! on CSA2 i would be paying £67 a week, so that would be about right!!

    Thats good news :T

Don't forget to ring them when QC reaches 16 as it doesn't 'flag' on their system!
