Does £750 sound reasonable?

  • Once again thanks to everyone who has taken the time out to reply. Strangely we have experienced none of the problems associated with problems with suspension, no uneven tyre wear, no problems with the brakes, no problems with steering etc. It was a bit of a shock to be told today that the MOT had failed for problemswith the suspension.

We have already paid for MOT, just need to present the car again within 10 days otherwise we are charged for a re-test. Methinks we will seek out some other garages for a second and third opinion as you have all kindlly suggested.

I have had the misfortune of doing this job myself. Probably one of the toughest mechanical jobs i have ever done. Tougher than a cambelt change.

The problem is passats (i imagine its a b5.5) have double lower and double upper suspension arms, c links and a pinch bolt which can take over 1 hour alone to replace.

For £750 i am expecting them to change all 8 arms, track rod ends, c links and factor in 1 hour each side to remove pinch bolt.

If its just one arm each side thats a bit pricey.
  • s b - just watched the Youtube link you kindly posted and that is the exact part that needs changing - DH saw the part today as the garage had already it in ready to replace! Couldn't see on the europarts website how much that part would be to order as they didn't have any in stock!

So it would seem that more quotes are definately required.

    Thanks everyone!

That's the upper, not the lower joint.
