how to join in games with Xbox

My nephew got an Xbox for his birthday. He wants to play games with his friends. How does he go about this? Someone mentioned an annual fee of approx £40 and someone else mentioned a "router". Does anybody know?

  • http://www.xbox.com/live. Yes, you need a router which will allow you to connect the Xbox and computers to a broadband connection at the same time. Otherwise unplug the computer and just connect the Xbox.

Make sure you look around for the xbox live membership, OH got his on ebay for £25. You only need a router if you want to use a pc or laptop online at the same time. We just used to take it in turns going online.. me on the laptop him on the xbox until we could afford a router, again got one on ebay for £19.99.
  • If you get your broadband with a USB modem get an ethernet crossover cable and network the xbox to the PC - it will then share the internet connection... Just plug the xbox into the pc and run the windows network wizard - dead easy! Plus, sign up for a silver live account and (I am told) you get a month free trial on gold access so you can play whilst hunting for best deal on 12 month subs card (Play £34.99 at mo)...
