Actually I sourced a replacement thermo catrtridge via Bristan (shower manufactured by another company - can't remember the name TBH - taken over by Bristan several years ago) about 9 months ago. Client had the original paperwork which confirmed a ten year guarantee with about 6 months to run. Bristan honoured that guarantee and new replacement cartridge supplied FOC. Sorry but I won't hear derogatory comments about their Customer Service - they are a good company and have never let me down but parts do go obsolete and when the stock has gone then its gone. Fact of life.

    Cheers

Ok - before going down the more costly route. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago which may be worth checking out first.

Remove the front cover and take a look at the cogs on the off/on dial. In my case they were cheap plastic cogs (on quite an expensive shower!) which had broken and therefore the on/off dial just went around without engaging IYSWIM. Again in my case the plastic cogs were all bent towards the left, so when I tried to turn the shower off (anticlockwise) they didn't engage. If I remember rightly the new part (cog) cost about £3 from a local builders merchants.

    It's worth a shot?!

Not sure anyone actually said anything derogatory but your 'i won't hear...' made me smile. It's a forum.

Thanks for all your comments! We prised the control knob off and have identified the problem - there is a plastic "wheel" underneath which is cracked, so it's not gripping properly when turned. Spoke to our plumber, who said that some Superglue might hold it but it's just a matter of time until it cracks again so we should look for a new part...

I did a bit of lateral thinking, and instead of searching Google/eBay for my actual shower model, started searching for the one I linked to above since the control knobs look the same. And managed to find one on eBay! :j

Whoppee! Was I right shar? Go on tell me! This sounds very much as I described, so feel mighty proud of myself!!! :D

This of course comes from the same person who was pleading for help last week due to a leaking radiator so obviously not the first to pm list when it comes to plumbing probs!!! ;)

    ...but problem solved! :T

It's not dissimilar! The cracked 'wheel' is pretty crappy looking plastic. Although to be fair, it did last almost 10 years.

A part needed replacing in our shower. I rang the service centre of the company concerned and they wanted £150.00 but went to great lenghths to advise it came with a 12 months guarantee.

However a friend of ours is a plumber and did the job for £25.00 including parts.

Also as we had a service agreement with BG we originally called them out and their advice was get a new shower and they could quote me now for it!

We have had luck on ebay before for showers so that is why I always suggest a search on there now. Glad it worked for you aswell and well done Pont!
