Why didn't you publish the name of the company Gary was complaining about? You're not usually shy about naming and shaming companies that offer bad customer service and this was a good example. Don't let companies that offer bad customer service hide from the fact.0

The reminds me of an issue i've noticed with new(ish) mobile phone's, especially on 3. They seem to prefer to hang on to a very low (see unusable) 3G signal at zero bars, rather than swap over to an older 2G transmitter at full signal at (6 bars).
On older phones you could switch/select which transmitter to use. On the newer smartphones, which use mobile internet, the problem is not only exaggerated, BUT it's also very hard to fix.....
A smartphone will refuse to swap transmitters if it has an active data connection, so you can't even tell the phone to swap over just prior to making an important call, you must wait for your call to drop (thus dropping the data connection), or go in/out of flight mode before you can go into the settings and change over manually.
It's down to a lack of thought and pure arrogance of the part of the operators software/firmware team... The assumption that everywhere has 100% coverage is then passed onto support staff, who are powerless to help an issue that they have been lead to believe cannot exist.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
