just had a call from 01252576300 info please

hi , ive just had a call from the number posted , asking for mrs blahblah ( my partners last name we arnt married ) tiold them i was his partner and they asked me if someone who lived 3 doors away from me were away on holidays as they were trying to get a telegram to them , i said i didnt know the neighbours well . i did a check on the number and its a credit collecting company called capquest who use the telegram ruse , what im bothered about it how and why did they get OUR information and is this normal practice ?? or do WE owe money that we dont know about , im very worried now as i cant see this being a normal practice to phone someones neighbour so if anyone has had dealings with these people info would be greatly appreciated ,

May be nothing to worry about, but this company get several mentions in >>this<< thread.

Have a read in case you start getting any demands from them.

Sorry if this thread is too old to respond but FWIW the debt collections agency will be after the neighbours not you.

Your number will have been gleaned from directory enquiries or something in your OH's name hence you being called Mrs OH.

They were bascially trying to confirm that they lived there - didnt care a jot if they were holidaying or not :rolleyes:

Just to be double sure though - did they mention your neighbours by name?

hi, when tel no's end in 000, most of the time it is a switchboard, and yes this is a tactic used by debt collectors and tracing agents.

Capquest are a debt collection company used by HSBC, i have had contact from them re: late payment of my credit card account. Hope this helps.

i keep getting this number ring me i answered 1st time and they hung up so have ignored it ever since but i can get upto 14 calls a week. iv had 6 calls today.. but just to make sure ive checked through all my post to make sure it isnt any debt collectors or other people trying to get hold of me and cant seem to find the same number...
