Price per Unit comparisons

Picking up from the ‘how much for a weekly shop’ type of thread, I find it amazing how easily people are conned into buying ‘the cheapest’ article because it’s only 99p instead of another at £1.25 (or whatever), WITHOUT peering at the price per litre/kilo/per 100 calculation noted on the sel.
These things are a godsend! And where they are not displayed, it doesn’t take a superbrain to do a quick conversion for comparison.
I just wish that it was possible to do such direct comparisons across all similar items!
How often do you find that brand X goo is priced at xx pence per litre, but brand Y goo is priced at yy pence per 100 grams! Now that gets me MAD.

You are right! I always try to look at the price per kg etc and I do sometimes think the supermarkets show their price per kg when the brand has it price per litre, just to thwart us!0

Yes, and the supermarkets often mix their measures - so it's not always really obvious which is cheaper ... often I wish I had a calculator to do the sums ... but I agree - my OH is always saying that is cheaper - until I point out the comparison sticker ... doh!0

the one that gets me is the comparison for grated and ungrated cheese.the one i looked at the other day had nearly £7 of a difference per kilo-guess which one was the more expensive lol

If the price per kilo etc isn't stated I usually work it out myself. You often get prices per litre then per 100ml, but never noticed a similar product be in grammes then litres. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
The other trap to avoid is buying something just because it is BOGOF -toothbrushes are a good example. The expensive brands are nearly always BOGOF but usually cost more like this than to buy a multipack of brand brushes somewhere like Savers.0

On the other hand, if you know that you will only use the smaller amount before the use by or whatever, then it is a waste to buy the bigger one!
Or if you know that buying a larger block of chocolate means you will actually eat more of it than you ought to - is it really money saving??
But yes, today I was adding up the price of a 400g block of cheese and a 200g block to see if the 600g block worked out cheaper!!!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I have been known to take Brand X priced per 100ml to the deli or meat counter and ask them to weigh it so I could compare. :whistle:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0

What got me today was looking at Tortilla wraps at Sainsbury's online. The Sainsbury's ones do not have a price per anything - just the unit price, and nowhere does it state how much the pack weighs - so I can't work it our for myself either! Very irritating.Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0

TKP, does it not state how many there are in the pack, you could calculate a price per tortilla to compare different brands.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0

There are 6 per pack - but how much does each weigh? They give no weights at all, so how do I compare to another pack ? I am not sure if they are bigger, smaller, the same size?Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0
