Another Egg Rejection

Morning all.
Having had to send several letters to both Barclays and Egg before they eventually found my account details, Egg have finally rejected my claim saying that at the time I took out the card, they didn't advise customers about PPI and as the card was requested online, I am wholly responsible for selecting PPI with the card.
Like many, PPI was not required due to my employment cover etc and of course I would not pay more money than I had to if neccessary so again, would not have knowingly selected PPI. They are correct in that it was ultimately my responsibility and it may well be that the box was 'pre-ticked', I think it was but I can't honestly remember.
Can anyone advise whether I have grounds to continue with the complaint and if so, what my plan of attack should be ?
Thanks in advance.

This would apply to any company not just Egg, where they've hidden behind the 'you knew what you were doing' response. There must be someone who's gone back after this response

If you buy "DIY" then you take responsibility for knowing what you are doing. If an adviser or member of staff is involved then more responsibility passes to the retailer.
The only time buying DIY can see successful complaints is if the information they supply is incorrect or the application process has flaws (pre-ticked for example).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks dunstonh, yes, I appreciate that you can't be missold if no selling took place. Has anyone gone back to Egg in a similar situation or any company for that matter where the 'pre-ticked' situation is concerned ?0
