Travelling with a baby!

Just wondering if people had any advice.
We are going on holidays for 2 weeks with our baby and will be staying in an apartment with microwave washing machine etc.
Baby will be 4 months... main reason for trip is to see his grandparents, although we will be in a holiday resort.
Just wondering do people normally take a car seat and a pram carry cot when travelling and how do u fair out on the plane with luggage and all that? We hav 15kg allowance for the two of us, and none for baby as he will be on our lap. I tried to get an extra seat to get the luggage allowance but there are none available.
I have a microwave steriliser, but i was wondering what ye thought of the tablets. I know my mum used to use them, but they leave a funny smell... do u rinse or is this know harm?
Any other tips or experiences would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks x

Its been a while since I've had to do this, but the thing is to take what you have to and leave what you can get easily over there - can the grandparents advise? For example you might be able to buy a reasonable quality carseat for convenience and get rid at the end of the holiday. Also check to see what the airline will let you take that doesn't take up your allowance - we took a "lie flat" pushchair, a cheap one, and were able to put it into the hold at the last minute, and it didn't affect our allowance.0

A large saucepan of water and Milton tablets worked years go and worked for us 5 years ago.
A Quinny Zapp pushchair uses a car seat in the chassis. Both go in the hold no problem.
Your changing bag usually doesn't count as luggage - maximise the opportunity. If youa re going somewhere warm you could get all the clothes for a 2 week stay for a four month old in one.0 -
Checking in your car seat shouldn't be a problem, nor should a lie flat pushchair.
You can get microwave steam steriliser bags. I found these on ebay. They were fab when we were travelling, but tablets are fine too. If you are worried about the smell just rinse with boiled water before using the bottles. That said, I also used to pack my steam steriliser in the case as it isn't very heavy. If you have it open you can fill it with small clothing items, that way it doesn't take a lot of space.

Thanks a mill!
I have a microwave steriliser that does one bottle at a time.. will probably bring that... will look for those bags too.
@ Daveyjp: Did u boil the saucepan with the water and the bottles and the tablets... The smell thats left after sterilising is harmless, right?

Are you travelling with Ryanair? If you are, then this isn't true. The changing bag is counted as luggage and can cost between £30 and £50 depending on season if you try and bring it as an extra bag. One buggy per child is free but they charge £10 each way for other infant equipment (car seats, etc.).
Also, I don't know about other airlines, but on Ryanair paying for an extra empty seat does not entitle you to that luggage allowance.O/S Weight Loss 1.75/80 -

Do not use a metal saucepan with sterilising tablets/fluid! You should never use metal items

We took our daughter to Australia when she was 4months old to visit grandparents. We took a lie flat pushchair(has to be lie flat due to babe being so young) and my parents borrowed a car seat from a friend which we used whilst out there.
I was breast&bottle feeding, so we needed to sterilise bottles, and we used a big washing up bowl with the tablets.
Don't worry about the smell left behind, it is totally harmless, but as another poster has said, if you are insistent about getting rid, use boiled water to rinse.
We hardly took any clothing for daughter, she practically lived in vest's it was so hot. But I found a cheap children's clothes shop and brought a few outfits for her.
We also took a travel cot with us.
Hope that helps some, and have a fantastic holiday! If you need anymore advice you are welcome to pm me x0
