Ombudsman

I contacted the ombudsman in May/June 2011 about PPI I had been sold without knowing. The ombudsman is still sorting this claim out and I have just received another letter dated 17th Feb 2012 informing me that their enquiries are still ongoing? is it normal to take so long. Or should I just have taken the easy way out and contacted one of the companies you see on the TV or internet saying they will do all the work for you and take a big chunck?

Earle, none of those companies would have been able to exert any more influence over your lender than you have done yourself. The Independent Financial Ombudsman Service is free to use, but currently snowed under with cases like yours which are awaiting a judgement. Have patience and, hopefully, you'll get the redress you crave. Be in no doubt that employing the services of a claim company will only succeed in needlessly costing you money should you win.

Yes. Partly due to the judicial review. Partly due to backlog. The weaker complaints tend to take longer than the obvious ones as well. Plus, they need to get evidence, where required, from you and the firm and that isnt always quick.

CMCs use the same free-of-charge complaints process you use. They have no magic powers or ways to circumvent the process. They dont do all the work for you. They usually use a one-size-fits-all template letter, post it and then sit back and wait.

  • I am in the same position as you I took my Central Trust case to the FOS last summer and I am still awaiting an adjudicator to look at my case. The last letter i received from the FOS was in September 11 and have heard no more from them since. It looks like we just have to sit tight and wait. Good luck with your claim ;).
