Vacuum cleaner for pet hair

No pets in my house now, but when I had a long haired border collie and a long haired ginger tom I found the best thing to do was "scrape" the carpet with my foot whilst wearing trainers! It really lifted the hair which I could then put into a bag and vacuum the last bits.
