yes i would take the stuff and put it on ebay, but i would give harold a suprise and give him a cheque for half the amount i got for selling the stuff. he could do what he wanted with it either spend it or donate it to charity.

I think Madge should speak to to Harold and tell him what she thinks, ask him if he would mind her selling his stuff and offer to split the profits with him.
Although the stuff is disgarded I think that this is the right thing to do and whilst I am all for money saving I don't think you should let making a few quid come before doing some good. I believe in what goes around comes around and sharing good fortune often means you end up benefitting more in the end.
  • I'm glad I don't live in Madge and Harold's neighbourhood! I wonder how many other people pile their junk in the street?

No, Madge shouldn't take the stuff and sell it herself - not without asking Harold whether it's OK for her to do so. Getting his permission, or negotiating a 50:50 split of proceeds on the basis of her savvy and his goods, would make for far better neighbourly relationships in the future, than if he found out what she'd done at a later date! Harold may have thrown out the goods, but they don't belong to Madge either.

I say all is fair in love, war and ebaying!
I would ask my neighbour if he minded my taking the stuff to sell though, no-one wants to be seen furtively rifling through their neghbours bins at dusk!
I know plenty of people who can't be bothered to sell their unwanted "rubbish" for a bit of extra cash and have been quite happy to give me stuff so it is in my back room and not cluttering their life up.
  • Today on flogit we have Madge........
Nothing to see here, move along.

What is wrong with asking Harold if he minds, if he doesn't go ahead if he does object - don't..........
Are those shopping bags you're carrying really bags of debt???

I'd tell Harold that he could make money if he sold the stuff on eBay. If he said he couldn't be bothered, then I'd take and flog it myself. But I wouldn't take advantage of his good nature by selling it myself without asking him, just as I wouldn't take something off someone for free if I knew it was valuable and they didn't.
