Hi,

Last time I switched Gas/Electricity was around 3-4 years. I remember it took around 2 months to switch.

How it is nowadays is it fast and easy to do?

I am right now on British Gas Web 10 Dual tariff and plan to switch to different providers, however, the current tariff ends on 29 Feb 2012. (I know I am late). Is it enough time for me to switch?

Because if its going to take another two months to switch, it might be not worth it. British Gas gives £50 cashback to existing customers who stay and switch to Online Tariff.

Any comment?

  • typically takes between 6-8 weeks. i'd switch to the online energy tariff anyway to avoid BG's standard rates. it doesn't have a cancellation fee so your safe to switch to another provider if you find a deal you want.

Thanks for your reply. I am pretty sure the current Web 10 had tied me in for 18 months. Are you sure the new online tariff doesn't tie me in for a certain amount of time if I switched?

I couldnt see anything, but there is always the small written...

Great. One more thing; they have a free offer to order the EnergySmart, which is basically a device that counts your energy usage. I wonder if I got that offer, it would bind me in. Couldn't find any small written this regarding though. Any experience with that?
  • energy smart is more monthly billing than anything else. it's a way of managing your account, so you give reads monthly online and get monthly bills. They send you the energy monitor for free, your not tied in to anything. You can just pay for what you use each month if you want or keep your fixed dd.
