potatoes alreay chitted in shops
Bought some seed potatoes the other day and put them in the cupboard under the stairs.
Went to get them out today and they already had long 2 inch white chits on them.
What do I do with these?
Do I take them off and rechit in the window sill or just leave them as they are?

They are like that because you put them in the cupboard. Chitting means leaving them in a cool light place, not a dark one.
I'd take those off and leave them somewhere light. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
I put them in the cupboard hoping they wouldnt chit just yet, lol.
So you reckon it would be safe to take them off and they should rechit right?0 -
Hopefully. It won't be 'unsafe' but they should grow again. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

"Safe" meaning they will be fine to grow, lol0

I would worry about breaking off shoots - how much energy has the plant put into making them? Why can't you just put them in the light now?
I planted some spuds last year that had rather long sprouts on and they grew just fine.0 -
They sprout weak spindly growths when chitted in the dark, But smaller and firmer when chitted in the light.
I would just plant them now, And carefully to avoid damaging them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Seed potatoes often have a few thin, white sprouts on them. It's normal just to rub them off and chit as usual.0
