Clinique 'toner' stuff

Sorry if this has been asked before....
I foolishly stopped to talk to the Clinique lady in my local big store this week and she did that disgusting thing with the piece of sellotape to show me how clogged up and nasty my pores were (yeuch)Actually I think I don't cleanse my face properly (I wear foundation nearly every day) and I do use Clinique soap sometimes but I've tried their 'tonic' stuff and it feels like paint stripper on my face - far too strong (even the 'mild' version). Can anyone recommend a cheaper and milder version of a tonic product I can use after the Clinique soap which would have the same effect as their very strong stuff ? (It is supposed to clean off all the stuff the soap didn't get, and if you look at the cotton wool afterwards it's certainly getting something off your face through heaven knows what - the skin itself I suspect !)

  • The Liz Earle stuff is absolutely lush, I think it's called instant boost skin tonic or similar. It's really gentle and smells lovely.

Elemis toners are lovely too. I found the Clinique one was like stripper too.

I use Simple face wash and toner and not had a problem with tightness or stinging, even when I've had a cold and my nose is all chapped there's not a problem.
However, I am using Clinique eye and face cream and my eyebags are clearing a treat

  • I second the Liz Earle toner. It is very gentle on the skin but will remove even the toughest of leftover make up as will the cleanser which is sooooo nice http://uk.lizearle.com/cleanse-tone-moisturise.html

Yes Elemis Apricot Toner or Liz Earle.

Just a thought Clinique the soap is not meant to remove makeup never was. They go on about the 3 Step thing but you are suppose to use a cleanser to remove your makeup then the soap or just in the morning.

for toner, something cheap and cheerful like boots or simple is grand. might be worth washing your face twice with the soap though, as that should get the makeup off and then clean your skin on round two. i don't use toner at all these days since my cleanser gets everything off!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Personally i would rather spend the money on good moisturisers and creams and use more basic clenser toner. I foud the clique stuff like paint stripper, too, used the three steps as a young woman/teen and my skin improved no end when i stopped using it. It was simply too harsh for me.

I love the Lush toners, there's 3 of them and they're quite cheap. I love the one called 'Breath of Fresh Air' its got sea water in it and is lovely to use as a spritz too.

Garnier Essentials refreshing toner makes your face feel really fresh and wakes it up in the morning! I use the one with grape extract in a green bottle for normal/combo skin! I like the Simple toner as well..also in green bottle.

LE one is nice but a bit pricey for a toner. I agree Clinique toners are horrid. They make my face sting.
