Unpaid Item strikes

On Ebay it states "Unpaid Item strikes do not affect a user's feedback score or member profile".

My question is, what purpose do they serve?

Are they visible anywhere to warn others?

I know you can block people who have "unpaid item strikes" but a visible warning would be better as not everyone has their preferences set up in this way.

An unpaid strike is more 'dangerous' than a neg purely because a buyer keeps them on their account for good and once they total a certain number in a certain timeframe they will get their account suspended.

It used to be three strikes and you were off, but you can now be struck off for as few as 2 strikes if you are new to buying.

  • Thanks for that.

Whenever I issue an "Unpaid Item Dispute" if the buyer doesn't pay in order to reclaim my seller's fees, I don't generally leave negative feedback in case the buyer retaliates but I do leave the strike on if the buyer doesn't respond and I get my fees back.

Glad to hear the strike does serve a purpose although other sellers are unaware of the buyer's status.

May be I should leave negative feedback as well? Normally I'm happy to get my fees back.

    Hello

Further to this - is it possible for a buyer to leave feedback for you, once you have started the unpaid item dispute process?

I think I am going to have to do this for the first time this week - I dont think the buyer has any reason to leave me nasty feedback (I'm a bit non plussed as to why they haven't replied or paid?), but since I currently have a glowing record I dont want anything to spoil this!

    Thanks, Sarri

Strikes are an invisible safeguard against dodgy buyers; feedback is the visible one. I feel I owe it to the community to leave fair feedback. (This means a neg where necessary, certainly in the case of a NPB)

  • How do you know if the buyer has an unpaid strike? and can you check somewhere to see if you as the seller has any.

There is no way of seeing how many unpaid strikes a person has.

If they respond in any way to the UID then they are allowed to leave feedback, however if they do not respond, any feedback they leave is removed.

So it seems the best thing to do if you want to leave negative feedback without the buyer retaliating and spoiling your feedback score is to wait until the FVF have been granted then close the UID and then leave negative feedback. The buyer gets a strike plus a neg. This is provided the buyer didn't respond to the UID. Now I understand..... :T
