its not like they need the money
they took £10.40 off me for parking for 3 hours 5 minutes in leeds at xmas
    had to forego the turkey
    we had swizzles instead
wont be using them again in a hurry

That's cheap! £18.45 I paid from 9.45 - 2.30 yesterday in Cardiff... I say I paid, it went on the company credit card!

    Ignore.

NCP like to pretend they have power over the motorist of some sort and the reality is that they have absolutely no powers over you at all. One of their supervisors once admitted to me the whole thing was a scam and having seen most of their bluff letters on their own computers I can tell you they are calling your bluff.

All NCP want is your money. They'll threaten and intimidate you in every way possible to try and get it. The thing you have to realise is that they are powerless. They're essentially filling the role of the school playground bully who likes everyone elses lunch money.

Hi Sassy....you posted in the wrong forum, there is a parking forum on here in the motoring section but never mind.

First things first NCP cannot FINE you, there are only a few regulatory bodies that can fine you, they are councils - courts and the police.

Secondly technically you have done nothing wrong, you paid for your parking before you left, you still have that ticket to prove you paid so let them swivel. Private companies like NCP cannot levy "fines" or penalties against a person they dont have the legal powers to do so.
They will send further threatening letters each time the ammount you owe them will go up, then you will get letters saying they'll take you to court - then from bailiffs or debt collectors saying they'll get you a CCJ, that is all bluff and bolloc*s, NCP have never taken anyone to court over unpaid tickets, even if they were to take you to court they would fail straight away because you have a valid ticket.

If you feel inclined to do so write them one letter.

    Dear sir / madam.

    LETTER BEFORE ACTION

On **/**/** I parked in the ****** car park.

Upon returning to the car park I paid the parking fee due as required and got the ticket to exit the car park, however the barriers to the car park were closed and the only exit was through the entry gate which had already been raised.

I have already contacted you about this matter and provided proof of payment - again see enclosed copy of ticket. ( put another copy in with this letter )

I consider this matter to be closed as I have paid the fee requested to park.

Should you contact myself again or the registered keeper of the car about this matter I shall be forced to take action against your company for Harassment as defined in the Protection from Harassment Act 1977

Sent the letter as outlined above - word for word. And then was quite prepared for them to do their worst.

Got a letter back within 2 weeks, saying they had CAREFULLY reviewed my appeal (cheeky sods), which they obviously hadn't done the first time, and are not proceeding with the matter and I can count this matter as now closed, BUT if I were to encounter the same problem, then I would be issued with a fine.

Yeah right - if that's what makes them feel better. I bet they have to drink a hell of a lot of hot chocolate to sleep at nite ;)

Anyroadup, thanks guys - and especially muckybutt - definitely the harassment line that did it. Well pleased with the result

Hope this helps anyone else who encounters this.

Thanks for coming back and updating us. Just goes to show you have to stand up to bullies and they are not so hard any more, doesn't it?

Someone on the "appeals" desk must have had a brain that day to relise that you won't going to pay, so decided to cancel the amount as a "goodwill gesture" to save them having to pay out any more money on postage.

After-all, unlike say Parking Pie, NCP own car-parks so they have assets which could be seized if someone takes them to court for harassment and they fail to pay.

Did they actually use the word 'fine' in their letter?

    Just curious.
