PC hangs at startup

Hi
I have just purchased a cordless keyboard and optical mouse. I have plugged in the optical control into the green ps2 port and usb port, installed the software correctly. However, when I reboot the PC it hangs during the boot process and will not progress unless I plug in an old keyboard into the purple ps2 port. Once that is plugged in the PC will then boot properly. Sometimes once booted I have to unplug the other keyboard or it makes strang things happen eg types lots of letters/numbers on its own. But once it is unplugged everything works great, until you need to reboot then you start over again. This is really inconvenient. Do you have any idea why the PC acts in this way and what I can do to resolve this issue. I am running on windows xp.
Many thanks.

Is that correct, usually it is one or the other. Have you checked in Control Panel, Mouse that you have the correct Hardware selected? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
As above cos Green is Mouse - Purple = Keybrd
Can you get into the BIOS .. look at startup screen for the key(s) to press DEL/F2/Ctlrl+S etc
Then see if the ps2 ports are turned off/on ??.Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -
The keyboard has no connection. The docking/charger has two connections the green mouse port and a usb port. Both keyboard and mouse are working perfectly. Everything seems ok in the bios. This is so strang. The only problem is the pc hanging at startup as if its searching for something in the keyboard port. I used to have a wireless keyboard/ mouse but the connecting thing had the green and purple ps2 port. There was never a problem but then the mouse broke. This is the second one I've tried since the first had just a usb connection and I thought that was the problem but this one has one usb port and one ps2 port (green)0

Some older PCs have an option in the bios to "halt on error". They can halt on "all errors", "keyboard" , "floppy disk" or "no errors". It will be looking for a standard keyboard connected through the ps2 connector. It doesn't matter if there is a USB keyboard there, it wants a ps2 keyboard. (if old enough an AT keyboard).
If it is this problem. You need into the bios (also try F10 if its compaq,). And alter the "halt on" settings.
Perhaps posting the brand and model of PC will help diagnosis.

Many thanks for all your help. Solved the problem by pluging in the green plug into the green port and then I found a green adapter and plugged that into the purple port and put the usb into that. The PC is now booting up no problem.0
