Guy be careful.

I ordered some tickets from trainline. I found they were the wrong ones and not an open return. I rang to exchange and pay the difference and they wouldn't do it. I had to return and they deducted £10 off the refund price. They also charge booking fees.

One of their "customer service agents" even said I DID have the correct ticket, (but the ticket had printed day return) so even he couldn't work out it wasn't the correct one. I spend thousands online and the details obviously wern't clear.

Eventually we bought from station and they were same price without the booking fee and hassle !!!

My advice AVOID and go with REDSPOTTEDHANKEY instead. Same prices, no admin fee, no Indian call centre that outs you on hold for ages. Also if you do have to call them check saynoto0870 as you can get a local number.

The Trainline booking fee has been common knowledge for a long time. I can't think why anyone uses Trainline when you can use the train oprerating company sites.

I always use National Rail to check the times and fares and then a TOC site to book the tickets.

A day return IS an open return - so you bought the wrong ticket. No ticket has 'open return' printed on it. And when they list the choice of fares for you they clearly state the ticket validity - whether it's a day or a month, anytime or off peak, etc. So the admin fee appears justified.

Agree about the rest of it though

There is insufficient information to know whether you were sold the correct ticket or not, far more information would need to be provided for us to determine that (let alone the liability for it!)

However I totally agree that Thetrainline should be avoided!
