Dogs getting frisky.....!

My dogs have always been fine together - my female dog is nearly 9 and was spayed at 6 months, while my male dog is 3 and entire.

There's been the odd bit of...er...licking of nether regions:o which both dogs are happy with.:)

But tonight my male dog suddenly leaped up in a state of high excitement and started humping the female.

All hell broke loose as she objected strongly and sent him away with a flea in his ear...walking like a penguin...!

I do hope he's not going to make a habit of this:D

  • Humping is often a dominance rather than sexual issue. I wonder if your dog is trying for the alpha position?

Maybe he's got a new lease of life or having a mid-life crisis and trying to prove to himself there's still life in the old dog? :rotfl:

Does he show an interest in other !!!!!es when you take him out?

If it bothers you or your girl, there are products available to spray on your female dog that "discourage" this behaviour by masking the smells she emits. (One is called "!!!!! stop" I think!!). My very randy Poodle is not fazed by this stuff at all but my Mum swears by it when hers come into season.

Funnily enough, my male dog did similar yesterday - poor boy is so out of practice (he's neutered!), he got his ends confused though! Maybe it's just a bit of spring in the air, stirring up those forgotten hormones.

He's only three so hardly a midlife crisis! He definitely does show interest in other lady dogs when I'm out, so I need to keep a tight grip on his lead.

Would my girl dog still be giving off the scent when she was spayed at 6 months - nearly nine years ago? She's the most tolerant dog, but not where humping's concerned.
  • In this instance I don't think we need photo's!!

It's just as well!! If I'd tried to take a photo I'd have been knocked over, the way she turned on him...the fur was definitely flying!
  • Could be dominance but as he's entire i'd say he's just...well...horny!
You'll have to be careful they dont end up really fighting if he keeps pestering her. Is he going to be neutered or is he going to be studded? if not i'd get him done.

My !!!!! is very odd..she humps my daughters large teddys!! :rotfl:
  • Would make your life easier if he were castrated. No holding onto the lead for dear life in case he catches wind of a bi tch in heat, for a start.

And that's going to happen a lot as Spring is springing right about now.

Wouldn't stop everything, humping isn't just the preserve of the unneutered, but it would certainly cut down on the Joys of Spring being reenacted in the kitchen of a Sunday morning, or you needing your arm reattached as he drags it out of its socket in the park.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I have been thinking about having him done, but he's such a timid little fella...he needs all the testosterone he can get! But if he carries on like this he can kiss his bits goodbye for sure!
