Advice needed for frustated FTB

I am getting myself very confused and don't know what to do next...

Our offer on a property was accepted approx 2 weeks before Christmas and we have been very prompt with any paper work, solicitors etc.

But for the past 3 weeks or so we have been waiting for a certifcate for the front windows of the property which were installed after April 2002 - the solicitor has told us that this is needed but we still haven't had this through - i suspect that the seller installed them himself and has no certificate but i am not being told either way and to make things worse, our solicitor is off with chicken pox and has been for that past week and a half.

The solitors have told us that our case is still being dealt in his absence and have now made us an appointment for next week to sign contracts in the hope that some documentation will come through, they have suggetsed that if we have no documentation for us to have an indeminity policy but i am unsure what this means - any advise on a way forward woud be great!

P.S The property is vacant!!!

The vendor can apply to Building Control at the local council to approve the windows. They come out within a few days and if the vendor goes to collect the certificate from them after they've been out, they will often do it there and then if they get a grovelling call in advance!

If the firm fitting the windows are FENSA registered, then a certificate should be organised when the work is carried out, but IME, FENSA do seem to take weeks to process a request.

Either a FENSA certificate or Building Regs approval is fine.
