help,chimney breast is damp

please help, large patch of the wall on chimney breast is damp.had work on the outside eg pointing, flashing, cleaning and repairing gutter.later also watershielded with product the outside wall, which does repel rain from the outside.
however, the inside wall is still very damp,if the gas fire is on 24/7 it dries it somewhat, not completely, but as soon as heavy rain lashes then it gets bad again.
anyone any ideas ,

We have exactly the same problem in our rented home. It's the actual roof that's leaking in our place and the water runs down the rafters and the chimney stack wall.

If you've had work done that hasn't cured it, it was either not done well enough or the issue is elsewhere.

It might be that the damp is temporary if you've done the work outside. Alternatively, if it's an old house ie Edwardian + the damp may be trapped between inside and outside. The weathershielding stuff may not allow the damp air to escape. I'd suggest heating until you think it's really dry then monitoring.
