Hi,
Firstly, sorry if this is the wrong place to put this post but I am new and have just woken up to find around £700 has been taken from my bank and I have no idea why.
I have a Natwest Basic account, (old Step account), and I have just woken up and found x3 "online transactions" totalling around £700.00 have gone through and I have no idea what these are.
I have no direct debits and my card is in my possession.
I am currently signed off sick from work with anxiety and depression and only receive 50% of my salary and Employment Support allowance, so i need this like a hole in the head.
Please can someone advise if they know the best way to proceed and what my chances are of having this money reimbursed.
I have financial commitments over the weekend like everyone else so am in a real panic.
Thank you for reading my thread and I look forward to hearing from anyone.
Thanks again.

Contact your bank immediately - there is probably an emergency/24 hour number somewhere on their website. Don't faff around waiting on here, go to your bank NOW.0

Thanks for you're reply Violalass.
I hear what you are saying, but I read something online that someone walked into a branch and was refunded the money there and then.
I just need to make sure I take the right path.0 -
Nevermind a refund, you need to contact your bank NOW to ensure that no more money disappears. There's nothing they can do until you report it, so the sooner the better.Stompa0

Stompa is right, the right path is to contact your bank NOW. Forget 'stories I read on the internet' - they're not the point. The first step is to make sure no more money is taken. The bank will have a procedure for this kind of event. There is zero possibility that contacting the bank NOW is the wrong thing to do.
Just to reassure you, I've had the same happen to me twice. The first time, I reported it on a Friday and had the money back in my account by the Monday. The second time, I can't remember exactly but it was less than a week before I had my money back. Each time, the bank gave me no hassle, just asked me to fill in a form and show them my signature (to prove that the one used wasn't mine).0 -
Everyone's circumstances will be different so rather than delaying the process by spending time on here, you should be spending your time contacting the bank.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

I'm with everyone else, get on the phone straight away, don't bother going to a branch. You're wasting time on the forum.0

Firstly, thank you very much to everyone who kindly posted. I feel rather guilty about what i will tell you secondly.
Secondly, i found out that all the money taken was taken by Wonga - the balance was due yesterday.
Sorry to everyone who posted, i feel as though i have mislead you all or wasted you're time.
I wish i had remembered that money was due, i would have cancelled the card so they could'nt take the money.
Naughty i know, but i would have sorted by means of paying off over a set period of time.0 -

I hope now you've paid them off you won't be using them again ? For future reference, cancelling your card won't stop them debiting your account.0 -

Thank you for being brave enough to come on here and admit that it was actually your own fault. You wouldn't believe how many people don't bother.
A friend of mine who used Wonga (against my advice) had problems with them, created a payment plan and emailed them with it. I was surprised that they accepted it immediately.
I suspect that they'd be even more receptive with the current attention they're receiving from the OFT,0
