Part-ex deal opinions?
I'm thinking of changing my car. Mine is an '02 plate and has done 91k miles which is below average but it's just cost me £250 to get it through the MOT and also had another repair job done last month. It's in very good overall condition although has a small spot of rust starting near the rear arch, the window seals are starting to leak when it rains and the engine is using some oil. I've enjoyed the car but it seems the right time to change it now.
I would sell it privately although I wouldn't like to sell it with the problems listed. It would likely cost a lot of money to sort them out anyway. Also I'd rather not go through the hassle of advertising and arranging for buyers to view it.
I've seen a nice looking car at a dealer which is a year younger than mine ('03 plate) but has only done 57k miles with FSH and will come with 12 months warranty and MOT. I will have to pay for tax though. The dealer has offered me £4,250 part-ex for mine, in reality it's worth around £5,000 privately give or take bearing in mind the issues mentioned. Their car is up for £7,950 so I'd need to find £3,700 cash to pay besides. Obviously I'm going to try haggling more to get that down a bit.

You don't say what car you have or what you are going for. I was thinking about part exchanging for one of these - http://www.northgate-group.co.uk/fiat/used-cars/view/450014/Mercedes-Benz-E-CLASS-E270-CDI-AVANTGARDE-4DR-TIP-AUTO - they are meant to be very good value for the money.0 -
Is it a rollys royce or something? Your 02 car is worth £4250 even though its in poor condition?
£3700 to get a car thats 1 year newer?
Paid just over £2000 for a 2004 mondeo estate, And that was 2 years ago...
Lot of money to possibly be in the same position next year.
Low mileage is not everything...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Ah should've said. It's a Honda S2000, they hold their prices well due to being relatively un-common.0

yep go for it:)0

when was the facelift s2k?
i would save and get that instead.0 -
The facelift was '04 onwards. I think the later model has nicer lights and bumpers but the earlier one has nicer wheels and the engine VTEC system has more of a 'kick'. Would need to find another £1,000 for the later model.0

So you're trading in a S2000 with a couple of issues for one a year newer, for your car + £3700?
Are you mad?0 -
Why will a car one year newer not be leaking the same as yours in another year.
I would have thought that was an age not mileage issue.0 -
Well I've decided to leave this and wait for a better deal somewhere else. I think £3,700 would be far too much. The dealer kept going on about their's being low mileage but like others say it's still nearly 10 years old!0

Would it not be a better idea to deal with the £7,450 debt in your signature rather than spend money on a car ?0
