City Link have lost my parcel.

I recently won an item on ebay and the vendor despatched the parcel via City Link.
I was at work when they tried to deliver, so the driver went next door, but they were also out. However, someone unknown (not the householder) pulled up outside the house two doors down and the delivery driver handed the parcel to them.
I have been unable to track down the parcel and City Link say there is nothing more they can do. Who is responsible? What should I do next?

the seller who sold you the item is responsible, additionally City Link don't even need to speak with you as you did not contract them for the delivery.
Be sure to get a paypal claim in before 45 days post-auction are up otherwise they won't help you either.0 -
Many thanks, I thought that was the case, but I just needed confirmation.

I agree with this. More detail - City Link are responsible to your vendor, your vendor is responsible to you. You have no direct claim on City Link. But you should soften the blow on the vendor by offering all relevant information to them.the seller who sold you the item is responsible, additionally City Link don't even need to speak with you as you did not contract them for the delivery.

Contact the seller before opening a claim. Most will refund without the need to damage their account by opening claims (I know i do). If the seller doesn't refund within a few days of you contacting them then open a claim with paypal and escalate it straight away.0

Out of interest here from a sellers point of view...
What happens with the seller in this instance? Are they likely to get refunded their item cost (assuming they took insurance to cover damage/loss)? As technically the item sounds like it's been delivered. To the wrong person yes, but delivered all the same.
I'd like to know what the likely outcome here is in case it ever happens to me. Would save me time coming & asking.0 -

Either way, it would be a good idea to start a new thread.0
