Santander savings - but can you get your money out again?

They may have the best rates but if you can't get your money out what is the point? I have now been waiting three days for a 'security call back' having tried to take the money out of my online savings. I am sick of spending time on the phone going through my history each time I call. My crime ? - putting money in and not touching the account for a year. I shall never touch their products again.:(

  • Funny you should say that. I opened a current account with them and didnt use it for a year also. When I came to transfer some money from that account to a new eSaver that I had opened online (to house savings from a NatWest eSaver) the transaction was refused. I emailed online banking support and they told me to write to Bradford asking for the account to be reactivated. I did so and got a letter back a week or so later saying that they couldnt discuss the account in a letter for "security reasons" and asking me to go into a branch.

    Oddly this doesnt seem to have had any effect on the eSaver.

    They really are the world's most incompetent bank. If they didn't have the best instant access savings account I wouldnt waste another second with them, and I will probably move anyway.

    I cannot understand how Santander manage to get any people to invest with them when there is all this publicity year in,year out about their appalling customer service.

    I had a savings account with them a few years ago.They managed to loose the ID I sent in & never replied to any complaint letter.

    In the end I just gave up & closed the a/c.

    I would never invest with them again irrespective of their interest rate. It's better to take slightly less & deal with one of the other institutions that you know will operate the account without any errors & deal with you promptly & courteously,of which their are many.

    In any case you probably end up not receiving the small amount of extra interest when they have failed to pay back your capital on the due date, never mind the cost of phone calls & stamps.
