he was 7 years old so I know that is a good age but nothing prepares you for the loss of a pet....he was such a sweetie...we are having him cremated and will bury him in the garden...he used to be in my step daughters bedroom (she is 8) and she is beside herself....any advice of how to make this any easier on her would be greatly appreciated...

I don't think there's much you can do. You can buy memorial plaques online, e.g. Ebay, she might feel it's nice to honour his memory with something like that and it helps make it a bit more final, but otherwise just give her time to grieve.0

yeah we are having a little ceremony for him on Sunday I have even written him a poem....0

Understand how you feel.
One of ours, a few years ago, died Christmas eve and I could not bring myself to tell my daughter for a couple of days. She was very upset. We got a little plaque from the £1 shop and had a little service, which seemed to help.
However, when our last one died, my daughter being older was not overduly upset, but I cried like a baby!!!
It is sad but that is the price we pay for loving.0 -

Sorry to hear of your loss
7 is a great age to get them to, well done (I lost a 7 year old) but it is actually no compensation as the longer you have had them, the more it hurts
And for an 8 year old she has had them all of her living memory, she needs to be able to talk it through with someone who understands, and be allowed to say that she misses them
It is just something you need to work through, grieving is normal if difficult and I would advise against rushing in to another one as they will not have the same character
What breed was yours? You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
We recently lost a pig we had had 8 years too, it was heartbreaking, you have my sympathy.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

So sorry for your loss x We rescued two Guinea pigs from our local rescue 3 weeks ago and they are already a big part of the family, they are so loving and entertaining.
Over time It will get easier, the fond memories will get you through it and be proud you helped him reach a great age, a lot of piggies these days struggle to reach 2/3. xxxx0
