Am about to renew our annual travel insurance. We want a comprehensive policy that includes cover for missed connections. Apparently, not all do:

Does anyone know of a policy which covers this? Please - I've asked in the insurance forum and no one has replied.

If you are buying separate tickets, then this can be quite risky depending on how you choose the flights and the time allowed. Insurers are excluding this to keep premiums down. If it was included, the premium could be high and the excess on the policy higher than for other risks.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

If you are with the same airline though, they should take care of you. I have been move donto the next flight no problem before.0

No - we always buy tickets through to the final destination.
The flights aren't necessarily with the same carrier - but usually partners (such as Star Alliance).
Appreciate that the cost will be more - but we want to insure against this and are willing to pay for it. Our holiday time is precious and we want to make the most of it.0

If you buy a through ticket, and it is the airlines fault that the connection is missed, then it is the airlines responsibility to get you to the final destination on the through ticket. What situations do you want the insurance to cover?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Yes- I've have missed connections loads of times due to flight delays. It's never been a problem and the Airlines concerned have always put me on latter flights, albeit usually with a different Airline.
One word of warning. If you have further flights on the same ticket, make sure you reconfirm them again as Airlines Computer Systems often take a missed connection as a termination of your flights with them!0

Perhaps I'm worrying too much. But typically, if we missed a connection, I'm thinking about the onward consequences on a fly drive holiday. It depends on how often the flights operate but car hire places are not open 24 hours at all airports.
Worse case scenario - 1st flight late; miss connection; get later flight; arrive at destination airport; car hire depot closed for the night; 1st hotel 1 hour drive away for 1 night only etc. Knock on effect is too complicated to imagine!
Am I a pessimist - maybe. Do I want to make sure we enjoy a good holidy - definitely.0

I think you're worrying too much - Just take contact numbers of the car hire company and first night hotel and if you're delayed you could always call them and let them know. I'm quite sure they'd be able to deal with your late arrival - they're probably used to it on a daily basis.0

            Hi
Did anyone have any joy finding this cover?
I realise this thread is quite old now but I have the same query. In the current situation with APD due to increase (again) more people are looking at using the european hubs - Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt etc etc and consequently if you break your journey the only sectors you would be covered for with regard to missed / delay departure would be the outbound sector from and inbound sector to the UK. Equally if you are on a multi sector self planned trip it would appear the same rules apply. NB this only applies if you break your journey - if you are ticketed all the way through it is the airline's responsibilityfor any delay.
For example my family & I (4people) have returned from a trip to Kenya where we flew Lhr to Nbo went on a 4 day safari in the Masai and returned to Nbo to continue to Mombasa. Kenya Airways was on strike so we hired a car & drove to Mba believing I was covered for its hire - Not so.
I have been travelling for the last 4 years with the belief we were fully covered and I am willing to pay a premium to obtain the cover but I just can't find anyone who does it. More worrying is that all of the folk I have asked have not been aware of the limitations either!
 Thanks0

A good example: We live oop North and are off to Disneyland Paris soon. To get to the station in London on time for the Eurostar we are reliant on trains into London not being delayed for very long.0

Most travel insurance policies will cover you if the train is late - with the proviso that you have left reasonable time for the connection. Getting travel insurance to cover you if you are wanting to avoid APD is more problematic as most travel insurance policies only covers journeys originating in the UK. You would be in the dodgy position of effectively telling the government and the insurance company two different things - you might get away with this, but you might not.0
