Sounds reasonable, if the hole looks like rust it probably is, if it looks like it a screwdriver smacked through a nice clean it of metal then it's probably been battered!. It is much, much easier to repair or ignore faults than point them out and deal with them.

    bump - update?
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?
  • If the flue has a hole then its knackered, it needs renewing. It may well be obsolete as far as BG goes but an independant GSR may be able to source a new flue.
Just a bit of advice, if its a Halstead boiler and you have had 10 years out of it start saving religiously for a new boiler and don't get another, they're rubbish!

In addition, your local competent car body shop or similar that can do general repairs may well be able to fix it, by repairing the rusty area.

It would then simply need refitted.
If, of course, this is the only issue.

This isn't a car body we're talking about though!
Would you use chewing gum to fix your brakes, or chuck an anchor out of the window to slow your car down?
You mean well matey but I'm afraid a holey flue needs replacing and any GSR that see's a repair to a flue will most likely I.D the appliance and then he's back to square one! Flues rot inside and out.

It would never be done. Even it it was you would be looking at a minimum of about £300 plus repair, to do it.

    New boiler time I'm afraid.

It would help before making online diagnostics if the boiler type was named?
It is also unfortunate these days that universal parts are now frowned upon and should not be used as the manufacturers literature is gospel over and above all gas legislation and now they state only manufacturers parts should be used!
    Its called commercialism!
I.e. make cheap parts that fail so they get an after sales profit also???
