If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • There are arguments above with regards how long something is expected to last.

2.5 years is probably not long enough for a washing machine used once a week. However if it is used several times a day, every day then it might be.

I.e. it depends on why the part that failed, failed. Was it a defect or was it wear and tear. If it is a defect then you have a claim. If its wear and tear, then unfortunately you don't!
  • I think it would come to down to a specific judges definitition on the day of how long it is reasonable for a washing machine to last (that's assuming that you took it to court etc).
For future reference it might be worth looking into Which - they do thorough tests on appliances so you can see which are the best value for money and I believe for a washing machine they would test it for a certain number of washer loads to see how reliable or not that particular model is - may save you money/give you better success next time.
    Best of luck

    Enjoy shopping!
For those that think 30 months is acceptable usage for your item, can you please give me some of your money, as it would appear money is no issue to you if you can buy stuff and just expect to replace it when it was poorly designed in the first place.........

For those that need a bit of reassurance, take a peek:

My last washing machine was 10 years old when I replaced it last year, and that was only because some of the internal components had suffered badly from being frozen 2 years in a row. My TV is now 11 years old, I keep hoping it will stop working so I can justify getting a new one but it won't, damn it!
