Insurance - different price - same company!

I recently received a quote for my car insurance renewal but thought to test a few comparison sites first.
The comparison sites showed that my existing company was still the cheapest but the price online was £140 cheaper than the letter I had directly from them!
I rang up to question this and they said its becauae my job title was slightly different and the start day was different by 1 day. Anyway he put me on hyold to 'see what he could do' and whilst he did so I went back on line to change the job title and start date to exactly the same.... he came back with a better price but still £40 more so I explained what I had done.... he put me on hold.... then came back and agreed I could have the same price as the online quote !!
I'm happy I saved £140 by being persistent but just goes to show how lots of us needlessly pay more than we have to !

  • I get the same every year for both Car and Bike insurance. First thing I do with the renewal quote is go online as a "new" customer to see if I get a better deal. I often get told that NEW customers get an introductory discount. Only once has my insurer refused to reduce my premium to that of a NEW customer, on that occassion I moved companies and wouldnt hesitate to do so again.

I have also found that if I ring my current insurer at the time of renewal to say a competitor is offering me a better deal they will often match that competitors price.

As you say, whay dont they just give you the best price in the first place!!!!!

I do this every year, just get new quotes, take out the policy and then send them their own renewal invitation as proof of NCB. I don't even bother arguing with the call centres asking them to match prices.

This year I got a better price by changing brokers, but they still use the same underwriter.
