Hi all,
No doubt this will not get posted by the mods...
Having used this site out of pure curiosity, I work in the gold trade as an assayer and know through contacts Gary Ryan at Hatton Garden Metals. All I can say after using his postal gold service is that they are ripping people off. This has happened to me twice now and under the law of averages they must be doing it with at least 50% of their customers.
The question is why have they got so many happy customers on this site in particular?? The mind boggles. Gary and Barbara must me employing half of Bombay to create these accounts on MSE, some of them with hundreds of posts as history.
Hatton Garden Metals under weighed each package I sent to them - guys and girls that is how they make their money. Forget about the gold calculators on their site – they cant make money on these quotes with the overheads they have - office and shop in St Cross Street in Hatton Garden.
But the big question is why does an esteemed site like MSE promote HGM as the best postal gold service when clearly they are not ??
Shop about folks and don’t read everything you see on sites like this :rotfl::rotfl:

Hmm, a new poster slagging off his competitors.
Whatever next?0 -
Hmm, long term poster here (either that or very busy troll eh?)
I used HGM this week, posted my items one day, less than 24 hours later I got the money they quoted, the exact amount posted to my bank account.
Less than 24 hours from plugging the details into their website and the money being transferred to my account.
They were the highest quote I could get, even places in the quarter (Brum) couldn't match it and it was all done simply and easily and fast as a rabbit.
All just my expereince of course
Oh, and i'm not from Bombay!2 angels in heaven :A0 -

Self same experience for me. :T Used the works postal scales to check the weight & got exactly what I expected.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -

Please allow me, as an "insider" to help. And no I don't have a postal gold site. I work for myself as a gold assayer for some of the largest pawnbrokers and refiners in the UK and US.
A post office weighing scales if brand new would have a tolerance of 1-5 grams. If they are old - just imagine the abuse they get on a daily basis - then perhaps they could be out by 5-7grams. How much is one gram of 9ct gold 100% of spot?? I will tell you, it's £13.52 and that is 100% of this afternoons London Fix at £1121.380
I don't know if you are a paid troll but do you see how they make their money?? Just take a moment to think about that please for your own financial benefit. Not all firms want to rip you off but...
And the only way to really accurately check is to buy one of these; Mettler-Toledo-JB2002G costing 850 plus VAT. But that defeats the purpose of using these sites if you need a few pounds of extra cash.
If you want to research more check out taxfreegold.com and what they have to say about HGM - Disclaimer - I am not linked to them in anyway
I am not promoting any service or company all I say is do your research - if you don't then you will be ripped off even if you know it or not.0 -

Now I have heard it all - Perhaps I should just go and talk to my nearest wall. I have over 25 years in the gold business - why all the resistance to some friendly insider advice.
Next you will be telling me that they use an "correctly" calibrated XRF machine:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Hello wall, did you hear the one about regularly "serviced" electronic scales........0 -
So there you have it "Hatton Garden Metals rips you off - less than nearly all other gold buyers" and does it efficiently and on time.
That is what I would call an endorsement.
Now tell us all what is involved in checking out a battered bangle and making sure it does not have a core of something else, be that a lower grade mixture called "Gold".0 -
Just used Hatton's for the second time for some odds and ends silver. I went into our local jewellers with Hatton's prices and they said they can only get those prices themselves so couldn't come anywhere near matching them. Sent my things off yesterday including some 'iffy' silver and received email today confirming my weight and money to be credited (I chose vouchers so still have a bit more to do to actually get the vouchers). They may be ripping me off to a max of 0.9 of a g but this would only be about 46p - much less than if I had sold to the local jeweller who said he could offer 20-30% less - so approx £5 less than I received from Hatton.0

Trying to help people you may be, but the way you go about it is all wrong.
You are rude, mocking and sarcastic.

Any sensible person who thought that a business was ripping them off wouldn't use that particular company again, so someone with 25 years in the gold industry who allows themselves to be ripped off on a gold transaction for a second time by the same person must be lacking a good bit of business sense. And the only way to really accurately check is to buy one of these; Mettler-Toledo-JB2002G costing 850 plus VAT.
One of these: (or any similar 0.1g or better resolution scales)
and a couple of calibration weights (1g and 5g would be sufficient for most people)
will be more than adequate for people selling the odd bit of gold and would allow the weight to be measured to well within 0.5g accuracy and the total outlay would be about £50.0
