Noisy multi-fuel stove

Hello all,

We've recently had a multi-fuel stove installed (Firefox 5) which is absolutely fantastic, but I have found that there is a lot of noise when it is in use (like a kind of low whistling wind noise), even when it is not particularly windy outside. Is this normal? I'm sure that other stoves I have seen in action haven't had this issue.

It's not a massive problem, but it would be nice to have a slightly quieter living room!

Thanks in advance

Have you checked the seal around the door is positioned correctly and not damaged?

If you think that the stove is burning, the fumes are going up your flue and the flue is creating suction, then it is possible that the door is not sealing properly and a small amount of air in your room is getting sucked in via the door, making this whistling noise.

    Just a thought.

As what rusty says, somewhere on the stove be it the door or somewhere else there is an air leak, the noise you can hear is the air getting into the stove, ropes can be easily replaced and are glued back into position with special heat resistant glue, if theres a small hole thats causing the whistle then go down the route of sealing that with fire cement.

  • Thanks for your replies about this. I will check out the door seals and try and find any holes. I'm not convinced that the handle is on tightly enough so I'll maybe try that first.
  • Does altering the primamry/secondary air flow change the noise? Does sound like it's just the stove drawing the air in and up the chimney.

On my stove, I can hear the rushing of air whenever it's lit. It's not a fault in the door seal, just the air rushing in through the ventilation slots in the door. If the air couldn't get in, then the fire would go out!
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
