My meter timing is out, what to do?

Following on from a post a couple days ago about whether my E7 was working for me I've been monitoring my usage,

I've found that my night rate yesterday was 12hours out. I.e 1pm til 8pm.

Checked it this morning I looked at 5:30am expecting the dial to read around 5:30pm.

It was actually reading 3pm,

It would seem my clock is taking 26 hours to do 24 hours so my cheap rate is always changing.

Am I likely to get a smacked bun for this?

No you won't and you can't even take advantage of it due to the such odd times so I'd just let the supplier know and get it fixed.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • Hi, if anything the supplier should be getting a good smacked bun for paying no attention whatsoever to any of the old mechanical type timers, its not very often I find one correct. The meters themselves to be fair are not owned ,or the responsibilty of the supplier but in the main any variation to the night rate timer will then skew the cheap rate into a more advantageous time for the majority of customers. As nearly all customers with economy 7 meters do not take advantage of the cheap rate and a large proportion dont understand the meters they will be paying less than they should. The few who do will be very angry to find that waiting till after midnight to have their showers or do the washing are wasting their time and money because they are still in the high rate.I am only talking about the non digital meters

Thanks for that, exactly what Ive been doing waiting until after certain times to do things.

Now ive taken note and understand whats going on with regards to me having a mech timer and finding out none of it really mattered.

Going to try and work out what its loosing as it even further out not ive just checked it. Although tonight from 6pm - 2am im on night tariff so not too bad :)
  • yes thats the advice I would give,( if the suppliers not going to take any notice of meter readers notes) is to understand the timers and you can end up getting cheap rate in peak times, there is a little square at the top right hand corner of the meter itself with a red indicator to confirm which rate is in progress

Yea already clocked that red tab. Thanks for your help, the meter readers I've had round have never mentioned it. Meter is under the stairs do they have to be let in to access it.
  • Hi dan_cup,the meter readers dont understand timers,no ones trained them.Let them in, they re only interested in getting in and out as quickly as possible. In my area (yorkshire) the meters/timers are owned by Y.E.D.L.(Yorkshire Electric Distribution) and they would know of all about these incorrect timers but I suppose the cost of rectifying them is the reason they are all still incorrect. meantime many thousands of people, mistakenly, are waiting till after midnight to use their appliances at full price.
