MBNA/Virgin PPI?

Hello all!

I have a virgin credit card and vaguely remember them selling something on the phone to me when I took it out that meant i could go through a period of not paying if things were tight; i think they even mentioned if i was going on a holiday i could stop a payment or two, i'd also be covered if i lost my job etc. They made it sound scary not to have it to be honest.

Fastforward a few years and I see that I'm still paying about £17 for something called lifestyle protect that I've never used and didn't really know what it was until someone on these lovely forums opened my eyes to it and made me remember that hastily had conversation I had with virgin about some kind of card protection.

I'm presuming it is PPI, and I am still paying it. Do you think I have a chance of cancelling it and reclaiming?

I had a letter yesterday saying the policy is changing so I have read through the terms and conditions and it says if you cancel this policy after the 30 day cancellation period expires you will not be entitled to a refund of any premiums paid for this policy unless you were ineligible for the policy at the start date of this insurance and that all the info supplied to them was accurate

I'm not sure if this means I don't have a chance at claiming. When I looked at my statements properly I was really shocked at the amount it was each month--i think the amount must go up the more you have on the card? i don't remember it being so much,...but as I didn't really have a clue what lifestyle protect was anyway...it's not a surprise.

any ideas what I should do? I just keep thinking that my payments are mostly going to this cover and it's stopping the debt dropping....

  • If you think it was mis-sold, fill in a FOS form and send a complaint in.

On the response I received from MBNA it said that if the cover was still in place, they would cancel it anyway.
