OLD MUTUAL special dividend

I really need some help. My husband has left me very suddenly and is negotiating a financial settlement. We have shares with old mutual which at today's date are worth 16k. I just received an email stating Old Mutual were proposing a special dividend announced. 18p per share and 7 new shares for every existing. I am struggling with the settlement as he is being less than generous. The figure in the financial settlement is 16k and he is pushing for it to be finalised very soon. Can anyone advise me if the shares and dividend will amount to much more in the next few months? I don't want to lose out and he will certainly not be forthcoming. The number of shares held are approx 10,000. I am just not sure what it all means.

Overall I would expect the current value of the shares will about equal the total of the special dividend and the value of the new shares, barring extraneous excitements on the stock market. Old Mutual arent giving you anything you dont already own, they are just shuffling things around.

So I dont think you need to treat the Old Mutual holding differently, value it at its current value.
