Lloyds TSB Credit Card PPI - Not confident of going it alone?

Hi All,

I've used a company for PPI recently and it's came back with some success, however they do charge 30% + vat for the service.

I read how easy it is to carry out the process, but I'm terrible at these kind of things.

I've looked at the Credit Card PPI claim section, and trying to follow it.

I've used the template letter for the terms and conditions (I actually have a copy from 2005 of t&c's, although it says at the top corner this is a replacement card), but I don't have any signature or information on PPI, which is definetely on the account and always has been and still paying as current.

I'm a little worried about the whole communication process that will have to be followed, using the PPI company was minimal paperwork, but I'm unsure what they exactly do and if they are just sending the FOS complaint information (which is also on the MSE guide) which I already fill in from them as part of the process. I'm not sure if they do other things behind the scenes?

Can anyone advise if it is a bit more complex than what it seems or if I am so unconfident of doing it myself, should I just continue to use the PPI Company? I'd rather they do it if it has a better chance of success seeing as they should know the correct procedures/actions to follow for each outcome.

TIA

FD

You dont need the agreement. That is an internet myth. Partly caused by claims companies and sites like this.

They do nothing behind the scenes. They send a template letter (often with made up information which can actually damage your complaint) to the same free-of charge complaints process you use and wait for the response.

You probably have a lower chance of success using a claims company given the fact their complaints are rarely personalised and usually contain BS reasons that if proven to be lies by the bank/firm can be used against you if your complaint is weak and a balance of probability decision needs to be made (these go with the most credible side - if your template letter has reasons which are complete BS then you lose credibility).

Thanks for that, so basically your saying all I need to do is send the Complaint form via the Lloyds own webiste?

Correct. Its very easy. No need to worry and you dont need to write war and peace. Just be concise on your complaint reasons.

Thanks again, one thing I noted reading on some stuff on here, it mentioned sometimes a PPI company are a better option for pre-2005 stuff.

The contract I received is dated 17/06/05 and does say in the top corner that this is a replacement card, and tbh I can't recall the exact time the card was opened, but I'm wondering if this card goes further back and this is just a card that replaces an expired one? (don't know if the card number would change?).

I'm a tad worried about doing it myself if there is a problem with going this far back?

I havent seen that. I cant see why it would make a difference.

Insurance became regulated in 2005 but some distribution channels had other levels of regulation that pre-existed that. Despite being in business before 2005, insurance regulation only started with me in 2005. So, if you were complaining about something I did in 2003 then it wouldnt matter if the complaint came from you or a claims company. It would still be pre-regulation in my case and rejected.

All a claims company does is issue a template letter and post it off.

Apologies Dunstonh, kinda wasted your time there, it seems I have already asked the PPI company I used about this, I was unsure but noticed a letter from the start of January (I started claims in November) that stated the account and they would inform me of PPI claim made. Couldn't recall doing that one, but obviously I have.

Got a letter yesterday with an update, supposedly I'll hear in the next few weeks (they have 12 weeks to respond) of the outcome. However one thing that did throw me was that the PPI Claims Company I used had also went for Mortgage PPI, however I never asked about this or sent a claim as I know my Protections are from different companies. I never checked the Account Number correctly, but they did quote a Mortgage Number.

Pretty scary if they can just find this information without me giving it out.

Guess they must have done something similar to a SAR or something?

The other issue is that by complaining about your mortgage PPI, if they succeed (and some banks are now rolling over easily whether you have a case or not) it will void your MPPI and stop your cover. So, if the policy is something you want, make sure you dont get made redundant or suffer a claimable event.

It is also a dodgy on their part putting in a complaint about MPPI without actually asking you if you thought it was mis-sold and why.

Tbh I don't have Mortgage Protection with Lloyds anyway, so it ain't gonna matter. I just noticed a letter with the other stuff saying that they have no record of me having PPI with them, which is correct, I don't and never have had.

I have my mortgage with them (through C&G) but that's it.

Having sent away for a copy of my agreement (not remembering I have already put a PPI claim in via a company) I noted on the notes that they were still trying to find a copy of a signature of approval. They did comment that the Card would not have been opened without one, which is correct, but I am unsure of any agreement that was made with PPI, I certainly cannot recall looking it out specifically and any discussions on it.

I have informed the PPI Claim Company that I have omitted from previous correspondence that having been a homeowner since 2001 that I have always had an Accident, Sickness and Employment cover which covers me for mortgage and also some additional cover to deal with other bills.

I'm hoping that this will help with my claim in regards to this cover and also the fact that they have not come up with a copy of a signed agreement.

I should hear by the end of next week as that will be 12 weeks also.
