Hello Fellow Savers,
I am a bit new to the investments game. I am thinking of putting some money away in stocks and shares, in an investment fund, for the next 5-10 years and am considering investing in the UK housing sector.
Good or bad idea?
I would especially like to hear from someone who has in depth knowledge experience investing in property.
Cheers,
Pat

I think you'll probably find (no promises though) the general concensus is that there is probably more downside than upside to residential housing with the current valuations. That's not to say prices won't continue to go up but the risk of a correction / fall is fairly real.
Having said that, take a look around you; are they building lots of new homes?? If you don't think enough new houses are being built then the law of supply and demand will force prices to continue to grow.
There are a few highly regarded commercial property funds and Investment Trusts that you could consider instead. It is also worth bearing in mind that the rules for investment vehicles holding residential proprties within the fund are hopefully going to be relaxed at some point in the near future - not sure of exact timetable though.
