Thinking about the dinosaur & the alien, that's just so typical of this area. Just a bit of quiet humour that hurts no one, but now it's in the public domain, the County council will have to act.

    Pity.:(

Here's another piece of sculpture I used to see about once a week. Sadly, it's gone now, but at least it went for a good reason.

Having stolen the piccie, the least I can do is give a link to the photographer's site. He covers some of 'your' areas too! :)

Busy morning for us, with DS1 at station for 0715, followed by a trip to a cartographer and map comparisons with 17thC originals. Looks like we are the proud, if temporary, owners of 4 x 17th Century maps :j. If only condition were better, but I'll take originality over condition most days.

Got back to find 2 cheques in the post, so its turning out ok so far this week :)

    Wow, that is a find.

PS - you may have worked out that I have had a thing about maps?

    Oh :(
Can't you collect some fuel, alfie? As per an earlier discussion.

My week ....... as per normal. Haven't even been outside since last Wednesday.

Had quite a few hailstorms yesterday - some laid rather like snow for a while. Today is brighter but there may be some snow flurries ....... or so they say.

    oh yes, i have been...just a pallaver !

    It is. :)

I have a set of Scottish history books that go back around that far, and they're worth serious money. Inside, are fold-out maps and plates, which have tended over the years to be removed from many sets for display purposes. I'll admit the text is pretty hard going!

The more folk who buy up the books to remove and frame the maps/plates, the more valuable my copies become. :D

Were these maps printed as maps in their own right, or as part of a publication?

I think that 3 engravings were parts of atlases with descriptions on the reverse. There is one by Ogilby (Carmarthen to Aberistwith), 2 by Speede (Cardigan and Carmarthen) and one by Blaue, Penbrochia. Trouble is someone probably about 1890 highlighted bits of the maps in red pencil and stuck them onto cloth backing with wood rails top/bottom to wall hang. Net result is prob authentic 17th C maps that are worth tens each rather than hundreds of pounds.

I'm a mapaholic so still quite happy although I envy you your maps :p

i did my airport run and thought id drop into a shop enroute home to change a couple of items.... i got stuck behind a lady at the service desk that was pointing out that the curtain rail she had bought was not WHITE... it was white but not the right white... the young girl looked puzzled and the older lady said to me "look, that is not white is it" i said actually it looked white to me... she launched into a tirade of "taking sides" etc... i burst out laughing. which didnt help... the young girl opened the box to remove it and it came out in 2 pieces...the woman had cut it in half !!! i nearly wet myself laughing as she explained she hadnt noticed it wasnt the right white till she put it up .. she got wild with me for laughing !:rotfl::rotfl: i then stopped her by saying " look ive had a sh*t week so far and if i didnt laugh at you for being a prat, i would have long since put a handy bucket over her head and hit it with an equally handy broom handle...." the whole que exploded.. she left....:D
